Clinical Observation of the So-Called Blood Boil

Abstract
So called blood boil is one of the most interesting form of neoplasm in the rhinological field. Blood boil which is well differentiated from hemangioma and bleeding polyps of the septum usually occurs in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. However in some cases often, confuses with the nasal malignancies. The author, presents the clinical study of 6 cases of the, blood boil treated at Chonnam National University Medical School during past 10 years(1964~1975}
Results are as follow;
1) The age distribution showed a peak in the 10 to 20 years old group, and female were: involved 2 times more frequently than male.
2) The cases were formed more frequently on right side (66.6%), and all cases were originated from middle meatus.
3) Blood boils were closely associated with nasal polyps.
4) There was no relation between blood boil and bleeding tendency.
5) The tumor larger than 5cm in transverse and longitudinal diameter were 2 cases (33.3%).
6) In the histopathological observation, the tumors were well capsulated and filled with organizing blood clots and newly formed blood vessels.
7) In all cases, recurrence of the tumor was not formed after the surgical intervention, and prognosis was satisfactory.
